Overview

The National Transport Authority awarded a four-year contract to Vix Technology UK Limited, with Snapper Services Ltd as subcontractor, for €9,231,377 to provide ongoing maintenance, support and development of its Near Field Communications system. The scope covers mobile app development, back-end systems, integration with the Leap Card and payment systems, and support for NTA's mobile analytics platform, enabling customers to check and top-up Leap Card balances via smartphone. This is an interim solution pending implementation of the Authority's separately procured Next Generation Ticketing system.

    The Near Field Communications System enhances the Leap Card customer experience. This service enables Smart Phones to read Leap Cards, enable Smart Phone users to purchase top-ups and tickets and then apply the resultant ticket or top-up value onto the smart card via the Near Field Communication functionality on the Smart Phone.
