Overview

In 2018 National Highways commenced construction of a new junction on the M49, 'Junction 1'. The new junction was constructed to promote development and economic growth in the area. The new junction comprises the following: - One new overbridge required with piled foundations - Existing accommodation overbridge (Farm Lane Bridge) used for one side of the new junction - New reinforced earth on and off slip embankments standing at 70° to reduce imported fill requirement - Ground improvement to soft ground below new embankments to reduce construction time
