Overview

The Department of Housing Local Government and Heritage commissioned trail maps for Killarney National Park to assist visitor navigation and safe use of designated trails. The maps will be produced in multiple formats including panels, leaflets, webpages, and downloadable PDFs, with consideration for future tactile and audio accessibility versions. ActiveMe Tourism Media and Heritage Services was awarded the contract on 29 April 2025 for €28,500 to deliver this pilot project, which is intended to establish a unified mapping approach across Ireland's National Parks.

What this covers

  • Provision of Trail Maps for Killarney National Park

    This project will produce maps to help visitors navigate the Killarney National Park and to find and use designated trails safely and enjoyably. The maps will be used on panels, leaflets, webpages and as downloadable PDFs. In the future they may be used to develop tactile maps and audio descriptions and this should be considered when developing the visual language. This is a pilot for Killarney National Park and for the National Parks and Wildlife Service which we hope will lead to a unified approach to mapping all Ireland’s National Parks for visitors. We are looking for an experienced map designer to work collaboratively with us, contributing specialist experience and expertise of best practice, to this important project.
