What this covers

  • Provision of Consultancy Services for a District Heating Feasibility Study for Limerick city and suburbs

Limerick City and County Council seeks to procure a feasibility study to investigate the potential for district heating in Limerick city and suburbs to cater for heat energy demand whilst contributing to decarbonisation of Irelands energy sector. It is the intention of Limerick City and County Council to explore the potential for district heating because it will form an important component of any future Energy Master Plan that may be prepared by the local authority to identify the current situation and projected destination in relation to energy usage and decarbonisation. Limerick City and County Council has adopted its Local Authority Climate Action Plan (LACAP) for the next 5 years, and it is the policy of the Limerick City and County Council to support the development of district heating within the city. Within the Climate Action Plan, it is the Councils ambition and responsibility to lead the county to reduce its emissions by 51 percent by 2030. The potential availability of waste heat which can be used to heat residential and commercial premises would significantly help towards the ambitious climate action targets proposed.
