Overview

Construction of a new Maynooth Eastern Ring Road which involves the construction of approximately 1.45 km of Type 3 Single Carriageway connecting the Leixlip Road (R148 regional road) and the Celbridge Road (R405 regional road) in a north-south direction to alleviate traffic within Maynooth. The development will involve two new junctions on existing roads, providing access to the R405 and the R148, and a proposed new bridge crossing the Royal Canal and Dublin to Sligo railway line located south of the existing R157 and R148 T-junction. The proposed bridge is located approximately 1km to the east of Maynooth town centre. There are also a series of reinforced concrete noise barrier walls to be constructed at the southern tie in to Cellbridge Road. The works will involve the following elements: - The provision of two new signalised junction tie ins; - Two new slip roads south of the proposed railway bridge; - Footway and cycleway provision; - The construction of a 41m single span prestressed precast concrete beam bridge spanning the Dublin – Sligo railway line and the Royal Canal. The bridge comprises 5no. beams with permanent formwork spanning transversely between these. An in-situ concrete deck will be poured with edge cantilevers. High containment precast concrete parapets are provided along the extents of the bridge; - Construction of precast concrete high containment walls on the approaches and the departure from the bridge; - Construction of stonework clad noise barrier walls to the south of the scheme around the tie-in to the R405; - Construction of a reinforced concrete towpath along the banks of the Royal Canal underneath the proposed bridge; - Earthworks, drainage, diversion of utilities and other associated work.
