Overview
The appointment of a construction contractor, leading to the successful completion of Rehabilitation Works at Ballincrussig and Twopot Bridges in Summer 2026. A Suitability Assessment Questionnaire (SAQ) is required as part of tender submissions, see instructions to tenders and all tender documents attached to this tender invitation. The normal derogation period for instream works is July to September. However, Inland Fisheries Ireland have granted permission to allow instream works to start in May 2026 at Ballincrussing Bridge. Instream works at Twopot Bridge shall only be conducted within the July to September derogation period. It may be beneficial for the contractor from a resource scheduling perspective to avail of the earlier window to start at Ballincrussig Bridge, but it is a requirement that all rehabilitation works at both bridges are completed by the 30th September 2026. The contractor is expected to resource accordingly to carry out works simultaneously at both bridges where necessary to achieve the 30th September 2026 completion date. Prospective tenderers should prepare a thorough programme ensuring to capture all items as per the tender documents. Some key tasks to be captured in the programme and actioned immediately upon appointment are as follows but are not limited to: 1. Make application for and procure a roadworks licence and road/lane closure approval from Cork City Council for the duration of works at both bridge sites. 2. Undertake localised ground investigation works at Ballincrussig Bridge to determine suitability for the installation of the proposed box culvert. 3. Early procurement of box culvert sections for the replacement of Ballincrussig Bridge as per the detailed design drawings and Box Culvert TAR attached to this tender. 4. Undertake localised ground investigation works at Twopot Bridge to determine the proximity of the underground Úisce Eireann watermain adjacent to the bridge western external retaining wall. 5. Apply for an electrofishing licence for Twopot Bridge, and subsequently undertake electrofishing at this location during construction.
