Overview
The Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (the “Department”) use GIS to help people make better decisions by using geospatial data. The Department makes widespread use of GIS to support evidence-based decision, project delivery, data operations and communication via analysis and visualisation tools. Extract, Transforms and Load (ETL) tasks are an essential element of many Departmental data projects. The Department’s remit includes Housing, Planning, Heritage and Met Éireann. Many projects involve extracting data, both spatial and non-spatial, from a variety of sources. Source data can include a range of geometry and attributes requiring both translation from different formats and transformation to a common centralised schema. Projects have also included workflow automation and systems integration. INSPIRE data harmonisation and schema translation may also feature.
