South Tyneside Borough Council has awarded a contract to VESTRA HOMECARE LTD to deliver extra care services at Griffin Court Extra Care Scheme in partnership with Karbon Homes. The scheme comprises 95 apartments (including 17 specialist dementia units) and will provide housing-related support and activities to adults aged 18+ with Care Act eligible needs, including those with physical disabilities, dementia, learning disabilities, autism, and mental health support needs, with housing staff on-site 8:30am–5pm, seven days a week. The scheme is due to open in January 2027 with residents moving in on a phased basis.
