Rewilding the Old Lea River
- Published
- Published 1 May 2026
Overview
This project seeks to help restore the Old Lea, as far as possible, in both appearance and ecological function, transforming it into a cleaner, healthier, naturally flowing and more climate-resilient waterway. Rewilding interventions will mimic key natural processes typically driven by beaver activity, large herbivores, and woodland river dynamics, including tree fall, decay, and storm-driven channel change. These processes support habitat complexity, improve water quality, and strengthen ecological resilience.
