1.1 This electrical periodic inspection and testing protocol document serves as a comprehensive guide for
service providers involved in the inspection and testing of domestic electrical systems. Designed to
ensure the ongoing safety and functionality of electrical installations, this document outlines
standardised procedures, process methodologies, and the client’s minimum compliance requirements.
The protocol emphasises the importance of adherence to regulatory standards and industry best
practice, promoting a proactive stance on risk mitigation within electrical systems. This concise yet
thorough document serves as an invaluable resource for service providers and engineers engaged in
the crucial task of maintaining the integrity and reliability of electrical systems through regular
inspection and testing.
1.2 This electrical periodic inspection and testing protocol document has been prepared to outline the
technical requirements and parameters for the intended application. It is crucial to note that this
document serves solely as a specification guide and does not constitute a comprehensive electrical
design. Users are reminded that the details provided herein are intended for informational purposes
only.
1.3 Where applicable, in the context of electrical design, it is imperative to emphasize the significance of
aligning the design process with the regulations set out in BS 7671, also known as the IET Wiring
Regulations. BS 7671 serves as a crucial framework for electrical installations and is designed to ensure
the safety, integrity, and reliability of electrical systems. In no event shall reliance solely upon this

consultation where required. Service providers shall assume full responsibility for any electrical design
and implementation conducted based on the information contained herein.
1.4 Where applicable, all electrical design work must be carried out by competent individuals who possess
a comprehensive understanding of BS 7671. It should be acknowledged that failure to adhere to BS
7671 could compromise the safety of the electrical installation and result in non-compliance with legal
and regulatory requirements.
1.5 The requirements of any other relevant legislation, including the Building Regulations 2010, British
Standards (e.g., BS 5839 Part 6), Codes of Practice, industry guidance, and manufacturer instructions,
will also need to be considered throughout the design process, where applicable.
1.6 As part of any procurement process, this specification must be read in conjunction with all drawings
and specifications, as no claim for lack of knowledge after the submission will be accepted. Any
ambiguity must be clarified during the procurement process permitted timeframes. In the event of any
discrepancy discovered after submission, the service provider is deemed to have included within their
submission any alternative that provides compliance as determined by the client.
1.7 The service provider shall be deemed to be the service provider appointed to carry out the work
covered by the specification, whether employed as the primary service provider or as a sub-contractor
instructed by the primary service provider.
