Overview

Gateshead Borough Council is establishing a Light Touch Framework for the provision of residential and nursing care homes for older people across the borough, covering general needs and specialist care including learning disabilities, mental health, autism, neurological conditions, and palliative care. The framework, valued at £250 million, is open to CQC-registered care homes within Gateshead only and will be reopened annually to allow new providers to apply. The initial procurement closes on 27 July 2026, with the council retaining discretion to add additional lots and reopen the framework at other intervals during the contract period.
