Medical Provision for British Antarctic Survey

UK Research and Innovation awarded a £9 million contract to University Hospitals Plymouth NHS Trust on 4 May 2026 to provide medical and dental screening, occupational health advice, and physician deployment for British Antarctic Survey employees, contractors, and visitors prior to polar deployment. The contract includes supply of consumables for Antarctic surgeries, access to specialist consultants for field medical situations, and representation at international medical bodies including ComNAP and SCAR, as well as medical support to the Government of South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands.
