Golborne Rail Station Project

Transport for Greater Manchester has appointed J. Murphy & Sons Limited as main contractor for the detailed design, construction, and handover of a new heavy railway station in Golborne, Wigan on the West Coast Mainline, with an associated hourly service to Manchester Victoria. The project, valued at £1,321,349 and awarded in May 2025, includes wider Wigan masterplan scope encompassing highways, public realm alterations, improved traffic flow, and enhanced active travel measures in Golborne town centre. The two-stage procurement involved detailed design to construction approval followed by construction, entry into service, and handover of the completed station.
