UK contracts reaching end of term in early 2027

Named buyers, incumbents and end dates for UK public contracts finishing between February and March 2027, and why the work to win them starts now.

Skim · Built on Skim's live UK procurement database28 September 20266 min read

Skim award records for UK buyers, CPV divisions 72 (IT services), 85 (health and social care) and 45 (construction), contracts over £500,000 reaching end of term between 28 February and 28 May 2027. Snapshot 28 September 2026. Contract end dates are publisher-attested or derived from start date plus duration and are missing on many sources, so these lists are a floor, not a census. Framework agreements are excluded throughout: they publish a ceiling across every supplier appointed to them, not a contract value.

Skim award records, 28 September 2026

The advanced passenger cloud platform ends on 28 February 2027, the Civica Lynx restart on 8 March, and the Atlassian strategic agreement on 9 March. Three separate competitions, three different incumbents, one buyer, £25.5m between them, inside a fortnight.
That is the shape of a public procurement pipeline, and it is the reason a bidder who understands one buyer properly is in a stronger position than one chasing three unrelated opportunities. The specification for a March recompete is written in the autumn. By the time the notice appears, the buyer has already decided what good looks like, and usually has a view on who provides it.

HM Land Registry holds two separate Nutanix contracts with the same supplier, both ending on 28 February 2027. Where a buyer has split one technology estate across several awards, the recompete is an opportunity to propose consolidating it, which is an argument an incumbent renewing line by line rarely makes.

Social care recompetes concentrate in local authorities, and several of these were awarded on or around 31 March in a previous year. The award date is worth as much as the end date: a buyer that awarded in late March is running a procurement calendar tied to the financial year, and will be at pre-market engagement stage around now.

What this data cannot tell you

Three limits are worth stating plainly, because a recompete list that pretends to completeness is worse than no list at all.
End dates are approximate. Some are attested by the buyer, others derived from a start date plus a stated duration, and many awards published to Contracts Finder carry no end date at all. A sector that looks quiet here may simply be a sector that publishes badly. These lists are a floor.
Framework agreements are excluded. A framework publishes a ceiling covering every supplier appointed to it, so a single figure can run to billions while describing no contract anyone actually holds. Mixing those into a table of contract values is the most common way procurement data is misread.
An end date is not a re-tender date. A buyer may extend, may have an option period nobody published, or may bring the service in-house. The date tells you when to ask the question, not what the answer will be.

FAQ

When should a bidder start work on a recompete?
Six to twelve months before the end date. A contract ending within three months is usually already out to tender, which means the specification is fixed, the evaluation criteria are set, and the incumbent has had the relationship throughout. The contracts listed here end in five to six months, which places them at the late end of the useful window.
How do you find out who holds a contract now?
Award notices name the winning supplier, and they are published on Contracts Finder and Find a Tender for UK awards above threshold. The work is in linking an award to its end date and to the buyer's other awards, which is what the tables above do.
Does a long-standing incumbent mean the recompete is not worth bidding?
Not by itself. The Procurement Act 2023 regime requires contracting authorities to assess against published criteria, and a buyer re-tendering after several years is usually looking for something the current arrangement has not delivered. The useful question is what has changed for that buyer since the last award, not how long the incumbent has held it.
