Maritime PRPP Contract Details notice

The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero awarded a contract worth £20,000 to the United Kingdom National Nuclear Laboratory Limited on 20 February 2026 for a qualitative assessment of proliferation resistance and physical protection characteristics of advanced reactor systems adapted for marine propulsion applications. The study will review the global marine reactor development landscape, identify design changes for maritime deployment, re-examine threat scenarios from previous land-based assessments, and develop high-level qualitative descriptions of how proliferation resistance and physical protection measure scores might be adjusted for marine-adapted reactors. This work builds on previous evaluations of land-based Generation IV reactor types including PWR, HTGR, LFR, SFR, and MSR designs.
