Overview

JNCC commissioned Mara Consultants Limited to analyse seabed imagery collected during the 2024 Wyville Thomson Ridge survey (0924S), including approximately 85 hours of drop-frame video and 3,530 still images, using BIIGLE annotation software to support monitoring of the Special Area of Conservation. The work was completed in December 2025 for £35,470 and required deep-sea taxonomy expertise to identify fauna in the imaged bedrock, stony, and biogenic reef habitats at depths between 350 and 1000 metres.
