Geospatial Mapping of Storm Overflows in England - Stage 2

Published
Published 15 August 2025

Overview

This project will provide key data and understanding relating to storm overflows in England, which will be a primary source of analysis to inform the statutory Progress Report on the Storm Overflow Discharge Reduction Plan (SODRP) - as required by the Water Industry Act 1991. This Report is a requirement placed on the Secretary of State for Defra and is due to be published and presented to Parliament by November 2025. This project aims to continue our initial work with Idox to analyse which overflows operating in England qualify for each of the SODRP targets, based on the criteria outlined within the Plan. Primarily this is based on proximity to defined sites, using the National Grid References for the outfall locations of storm overflows where they discharge raw sewage to the environment. A full project scope is attached (including criteria already delivered in Stage 1 (March 2025)). This will be a call-off G-Cloud contract.
