Overview

The Home Office has awarded a £20,000 contract to NSSL Global on 21 July 2025 for continuation of satellite airtime service to Border Force Maritime Cutters and Coastal Patrol Vessels (CPVs) until 31 March 2026. The existing Inmarsat-based GMDSS equipment installed on these vessels requires ongoing subscription services, and NSSL Global is the sole authorised provider capable of maintaining uninterrupted service to ensure compliance with international maritime regulations and operational readiness. This direct award was justified on grounds of extreme urgency and technical compatibility, pending a competitive procurement for a new three-year contract.
