Die siedlungsgeschichtliche Entwicklung des Ortsteils Baumberg wurde maßgeblich von fünf Hofanlagen geprägt, wobei der Kirberger Hof die älteste, bedeutendste und heute einzig erhaltene Anlage darstellt.
