FE 77.0702/2024/ - "Fußverkehrsnetze für nachhaltige Mobilität und attraktive öffentliche (Straßen-) Räume"

The Bundesanstalt für Straßen- und Verkehrswesen procured research services to develop methods for identifying and advancing pedestrian traffic networks to support sustainable mobility and attractive public spaces. The project, awarded to Technische Universität Dresden in June 2026, aims to systematize various approaches to pedestrian network development and hierarchy across different spatial contexts, from small towns to major cities, incorporating planning methods and GIS-supported techniques. The research will establish a transferable methodology for application throughout Germany, addressing the gap between the recognized importance of pedestrian traffic and its often insufficient consideration in street planning practice.
