Prüfung von Vortests zum THC-Nachweis im Rahmen des §24a und § 24c des Straßenverkehrsgesetzes (StVG)

The Federal Road Research Institute (BASt) commissioned a research project to establish measurement criteria for saliva pre-tests used to detect THC in roadside testing under German traffic law (§24a and §24c StVG), which introduced THC limits of 3.5 ng/ml for general drivers and 1.0 ng/ml for young drivers. The research, awarded to the University of Freiburg Medical Faculty in May 2026 for €176,073, aims to determine pre-test specifications that correlate highly with blood serum confirmation analyses while accounting for the duration of impairment relevant to road safety. The project also evaluates newer methods such as saliva as a confirmation matrix and capillary blood use in pre-tests.
