The Confederación Hidrográfica del Guadiana has awarded a contract for the removal and control of invasive Mexican waterlily (Nympahea Mexicana) from the Guadiana River across sections 2, 3, and 4, spanning from the Puente de la Autonomía in Badajoz to the confluence with the Río Caya at the Portuguese border. The work, valued at 11.8 million EUR, was awarded to the joint venture ROVER INFRAESTRUCTURAS, S.A. and EXTREMADURA VERDE SL on 8 June 2026 and is co-financed through the European Regional Development Fund under Spain's 2021-2027 multi-regional programme.
