Overview
The I-Form Centre at UCD, carries out research on the printing of polymers and composites. The Centre has a particular focus on the use of in-situ monitoring to facilitate enhanced print process control. The requested high temperature polymer / composite 3D printer will allow the group to compete with leading research groups in 3D printing of high-performance thermoplastic polymers such as PEEK, PEKK, etc., and their fiber reinforced composites for use in industry sectors such as medical device and aerospace manufacture. With the capabilities of the 3D Printer, the group will have the capability to investigate the printing behaviour and optimise the processing parameters for printed parts.
