Wasserstraßen-Neubauamt Datteln awarded construction works to Johann Bunte Bauunternehmung SE & Co. KG for €16,163,964.68 on 24 April 2026 for preparatory work on the replacement of the Great Lock Bevergern, including site preparation, dewatering and complete demolition of the Old Small Lock Bevergern, earthworks for the new lower harbour basin with mooring facilities, and road construction for access routes and construction site infrastructure. The contract covers partial filling of the Old Channel, removal of lock structures and associated buildings, and preparation of traffic surfaces in asphalt construction between the Westfalenstrasse and the Bevergern locks.
