Stadt Cottbus awarded architecture and planning services to mayerwittig Architektur Stadtplanung GbR for €886,564 on 24 April 2026 to develop the Drebkauer Straße site into an integrated education and care campus. The scope includes site and building concept development for a sports-focused primary school, expansion of childcare (Kita Freundschaft) and after-school care facilities (approximately 160 additional places), refurbishment of existing structures, fire safety and other expert reports, and HOAI phases 1–9 (with phases 1–2 initially contracted and phases 3–9 optional). The planning must accommodate continued operations of existing school and care facilities during phased construction, incorporate accessibility, sustainability principles, and flexible pedagological spaces for future demographic changes.
