DESY has awarded a framework contract for the provision of qualified piping and plant construction workers to support shutdown operations at water-cooled systems in the European XFEL, PETRA III, and other accelerator facilities from 2026 to 2028. The contract, awarded to Kliewe GmbH and Plus-Pohl GmbH on 8 June 2026, covers assembly, maintenance, and repair work on piping systems (copper, stainless steel, Victaulic) including soldering, pressing, flanging, sealing, component replacement, and leak detection, with work performed primarily in underground tunnels and shafts under applicable safety and radiation protection requirements. Deployments require 2 to 6 skilled workers per assignment for 1 to 4 weeks, with repeat staffing of trained personnel planned.
