Lathe for Contact Lenses
- Published
- Published 7 March 2025
Overview
The contact Lens service at Moorfields Eye Hospital is the largest hospital based medical contact lens service in the UK. 15,000 patients attend the contact lens service on an annual basis for medically necessary contact lenses. The contact lens manufacturing lab produced 2500 rigid gas permeable contact lenses and approximately 500 scleral lenses per annum, which provides our patients with sight correction that they would not have through any other means of correction. The quality of life impact on these patients is huge. The new lathe will allow a greater number of lens options to be manufactured in house thus reducing our external spend with other contact lens manufacturers thus offering not only excellent patient outcomes but cost efficiencies for the Trust.
