HS2 Project Third Party Telecommunications Systems

HS2 has awarded a contract for the design, supply, installation, testing, commissioning and interim operation of third-party telecommunications systems across the HS2 network, including passenger communication systems (Radio Access Network infrastructure for mobile coverage), Emergency Services Network infrastructure for stations and tunnels, and Station Data Network services. The contract, valued at £80.54 million and awarded on 23 January 2025 to Hitachi Rail GTS UK Limited and Telent Technology Services Limited, comprises two elements: a Design & Build contract using NEC3 Engineering and Construction Contract terms, and an Interim Operator contract for maintenance and operational services during trial operations, after which systems will transition to a long-term operating partner.
